Stop what you're doing. What thoughts are in your head right now? Perhaps you're thinking about something that happened earlier today. Maybe you're anticipating something you have planned for tonight. No matter what you're contemplating, if it's something other than reading these words with your full attention, chances are you're not living in the moment.
No, this is not some covert ploy to get you riveted to my newsletter! It's just a gentle reminder that most people live in their pasts and futures far more often than they experience their 'nows'. I've said it before, so this time I'll ask instead: What meaning does you past have? (I'll give you a hint, the correct answer is extremely short!) None. Nada. Not a thing. The past doesn't matter. It's gone, and it's not coming back. Not much different from your future, which isn't here yet. And if you get technical about the words 'past' and 'future', they're ultimately just products of your imagination.
When you get right down to it, there is only one moment in time which matters. And it's the same moment all the time, the only moment you'll ever have. It's now.
So when you find your thoughts circling back to the mishaps of yesterday, or toward the potential pitfalls of tomorrow, here's a simple tool to ground yourself back in the present moment. Ask yourself: "What one thing can I do right now that will make my life better?" Then relax, and let the answer come to you. You may find you're inspired to take some action you've been putting off. Maybe you need to clear your mind of negative thoughts, or simply take a rest. Whatever moves you, notice the power to enrich your life exists only in the present moment.
The past is history. You can't change what's done. And the same goes for the future. You could spend day and night planning for something to go a certain way, only to find it turns out differently (maybe better!) in the present moment. And here lies the subtle key. It's not what happens in the present moment which determines our lives - it's what we make of what happens in the present moment that shapes our realities. If you don't believe me, observe two individuals witnessing the same event - and without fail, you'll get two different takes on the meaning of that event.
When it comes to Law of Attraction - and manifesting what you want - it's critical to monitor your vibrations. The core principle of LoA is like attracts like. So the more good vibes you send out to The Universe, the more good vibes magnetize back to you. And while we're all human - which makes maintaining high vibes 100% of the time unlikely - Michael Losier (in his book 'Law of Attraction') mentions keeping your frequency set to 98.5 - or put another way, having high vibes 98.5% of the time. This takes 'perfectionism' out of practicing LoA, as it allows for moments of not-so-high vibrations. Remember though, to stay at 98.5, you had better come out of your funks ASAP!
Now. It's all there ever is. It's all there ever will be. So ask yourself, "How many 'now' moments am I truly experiencing?" And aimlessly passing through life doesn't count! I'm talking about being fully present in every moment - experiencing the beauty, expressing the emotion, feeling the joy all around you. Your ticket to happiness is truly being in each and every moment.
So if you're feeling down about a situation in your life - maybe you feel something's missing - understand that in this moment, in this now, you have everything you need. And if you find yourself starting to protest, realize those thoughts are your ego, not you're highest-vibrational, spiritual self. Then make a choice. Choose to experience the most positive vibrations possible! Let go of any wasteful ego-chatter. That's not who you really are. The real you is divinely perfect, right now, in every moment. You have all the power in the world. All you need do is access it now. Don't let another moment slip away. How will you make your life better the moment after reading this last word?
Until next time...
With love,
-Jeff
Ask Coach Jeff...
Question: As I understand it, Law of Attraction involves focusing your attention, then allowing the results to happen. I'm struggling with this a little, because they seem like opposites. How can I make the process work?
-P.J., Middleton, MA
Excellent question, P.J. And you're right, there are a few different components to making LoA work. As you said, you must first focus on what you want. Tell The Universe exactly what you'd like to receive. Be clear, be specific. And with that, a big part of your job is done. It isn't up to you to figure out 'how' The Universe will deliver what you desire. It IS your job though to believe it's all being taken care of - and to take inspired action as someone who knows they'll be receiving what they asked for. And how do you do that? As you mentioned, by allowing - or in other words, letting The Universe go to work for you. Allowing doesn't mean you stop focusing - it means you stop focusing on the 'hows' - it means you're open to receiving in ways The Universe knows best for you. So in reality, all the parts work in harmony. It is my wish that this helps take the 'struggle' out of the equation for you - and injects some FUN into the amazing process of manifesting all you desire!
